Bwana.org » Blog Archive » TwaikuTwaiku allows you to simultaneously post to Twitter and Jaiku. The main improvement I’ve done is here is allow you to use Jaiku’s icon set with your posts.

Technology Review: Is Twitter Here to Stay?
More Jaiku
Jaiku: Over the weekend I played around a bit more with Jaiku, the presence monitoring tool similar to Twitter, but with quite a few more features. One nice aspect is that you can combine Twitter like updates with other types of data such as your Flickr photostream, RSS feeds and even your Twitter posts. So with Jaiku, you can combine elements of your online presence into a single stream. This also generates an RSS feed, so you can easily combine the elements of your online presence and share it with others. They have an API and already have Quicksilver hooks. I've added an RSS Feed of my Jaiku stream to the sidebar. I'm having a bit of trouble getting it to display (it could be theme relates, not sure...) so have also used the old standby Feed2JS and also threw that in the sidebar too.
Joi Ito has a post that explains the differences between the two tools pretty well. Another interesting take on Jaiku comes from Ton.

Leadertalk
Scott McLeod has put together a great multi-author weblog over at Leadertalk. It's a place for practicing school administrators to post about their work and the challenges and rewards inherent in that work. For the most part participants are asked to post at least once a month. Scott has asked me to take part and I feel very honored to be associated with the contributors he has gathered together . My first post for Leadertalk deals with school fundraising and can be found here.

Google Maps: My Maps
Last night Google released a new Google Maps feature called My Maps. They have added some basic editing and annotation tools to the interface so you can create custom maps with lines and polygons. You can also create a KML file for use in Google Earth. Below is a map I quickly created with our new school boundaries.

More Outdoor Classroom at Lewis
On Friday the concrete floor of our outdoor classroom at Lewis Elementary was poured. Helping with this effort were Lewis parents, Antonio Chavez, Ed Sisson, Darcie and Reed McIntosh, and Gregory MacNaughton. The group worked into the evening to set and finish the concrete and the result is a great looking floor in our outdoor classroom space. 3rd grade student Antonia helped us document the work and you can view some photographs she took over at Flickr...

Outdoor Classroom at Lewis
Last spring we started to create an outdoor classroom space at Lewis. We got as far as the structure itself, but still needed to pour a concrete pad and also finish the roof. This spring we were awarded a grant to install an eco roof/green roof on the structure and plan to do so later this spring.
This left the pouring of the pad which we anticipated would cost about $800 when all was said and done. Finding the $800 was proving to be a problem, that is until last Thursday. It turns out that Lakeshore Entertainment is in Portland filming a movie titled Untraceable. One of their sets is in the Lewis neighborhood and they needed a place for cast and crew to park their cars while filming this week. Since this week is spring break in Portland, it worked out that they could use our parking lot, and in return they have made a donation to the school that will cover the cost of the concrete and pumper truck. I have rounded up a few of our parents who know how to pour and finish concrete, so this afternoon we will finish framing the pad, and tomorrow afternoon the concrete truck is scheduled to show up around 3:00 and we will pour the pad.
