Thawing...
This was the view out to the patio yesterday. The rain last night helped quite a bit and today we should get rid of quite a bit more... side streets are still pretty messy... Am looking forward to getting back to Portland's winter rain...

Portland Nursery Profile of Lewis Elementary
At Lewis we have been working to establish and sustain a garden education component to our curriculum. Recently the work of our staff and families was highlighted on the Portland Nursery web site. Thanks to Peggy Alcott and the Portland Nursery staff for their continued support to our program...

More snow overnight...
Woke up this morning to another 5 inches of snow. This is one big weather system. I'm been spending quite a bit of time on my computer and it has been fun to follow storm updates with Twitter. I have been using TweetDeck as my Twitter client. It has a pained view and I can easily follow my Twitter activity and specific search phrases. Twitter users in Portland have been using the hashtag pdxtst to note storm and weather related posts. PDX is the airport designation for Portland, and TST stands for Twitter Storm Team. It's kind of a jab at the local media who blare their constant weather coverage as Storm Team Coverage... Anyway, below I have two photos looking out on my patio, taken 24 hours apart. It's gonna be a long week...

Freezing Rain on Top of Snow...
Yesterday we finally got the "Arctic Blast" that the local media had been screaming about all week. (Find it funny when they refer to temperatures in the 20's F as Arctic...) It started snowing about 7:00 am and did not stop until last night. Overnight, the snow has turned into freezing rain. So now we have a layer of ice on top of the snow and everything else. Via Twitter I'm seeing reports of branches and trees coming down and of power outages. I took a few pictures outside my door this morning and also out my window. I hope to venture out a bit later today and take some more pictures.
Snowing at Lewis and Working in the Lab...
I'm at Lewis today working in the computer lab. Our PTA has a function going on and in spite of the weather, it is taking place and I needed to open the building for them. I'm using the time to reimage our old lab computers. Last Wednesday we unboxed and set up 23 new iMacs to add to 6 existing iMacs to bring our lab up to 29 computers. My music and technology teacher, Tony Jamesbarry and I spent most of Wednesday (another snow day...) imaging the new computers and today I am imaging the old lab eMacs in preparation for moving them out to classrooms to replace much older iMacs (the colorful ones...) As I mentioned the weather today is pretty bad. The worst we have had all week. The video below is the view outside the door that leads to our garden area. [flickr video=3122759179]
